Las Mariposas B&B
Our favorite B&B is Las Mariposas, at Pino Suárez 517. Rooms are nicely decorated, including ten brand new rooms and suites in the inner patio and garden. There are two lovely patios for relaxing, including one where a family-style breakfast is provided and guests (many of them people who return year after year) gather to chat at the end of the day.
The multi-talented owner, Teresa Villareal, is one of the most helpful and well-informed contacts you could have in Oaxaca, as is her daughter, Lucía. In addition to being charming, knowledgeable, and dedicated to providing the best experience possible to their guests from all over the world, Teresa and Lucia are also very ecologically minded, for example using extremely efficient LED lighting in public areas, recycling waste and water, and providing guests with delicious fair-trade coffee.
Las Mariposas is just a couple of blocks from Santo Domingo church and Llano Park, one of the prettiest spots in town. Free internet access is provided, including wireless if you’ve brought your own laptop. Guests can also make low-cost phone calls to the US and Canada from the office. Double rooms start at $450 pesos (about $40 U.S.) including tax; rooms with kitchenettes are also available at a slightly higher rate. +52 951 51 558 54; (619) 793 5121 from the US and Canada; www.lasmariposas.com.mx).
We think Las Mariposas offers the best value for your dollar or euro in Oaxaca.
